Social Bookmarking

Bookmarks are useful for saving a favorite Web site for future reference. When I find a good Web site, I create a bookmark so that I can use it again later. In an effort to show my students good Web sites for their studies, I often reference these sites that I have bookmarked.

Social bookmarking works the same way, except I no longer need to print out a list of Web sites for my students to visit. Instead, I use an account that stores all of my bookmarks to a remote site. I can log in to this account and add tags (descriptive keywords) and notes about each site. I can delete sites from my list or make them private. I can even bundle sites together into related categories.

To share my bookmarks with students, I only need to give them one address: delicious.com/melindajohnson. If students or colleagues have their own delicious.com accounts, they can click once to add me to their network and my links will appear on their own pages.
